Twist Elder PIP or How I Learned to Love the Shades

So I've managed to get some paint down. It's been a long time since I've put a brush to a model, the last time being my Inquisitorial Henchman, the smuggler turned Inquisition Pilot, Henrik Frey.

This guy so far has had a Chaos Black undercoat followed by a Corax White zenithal highlight. Once dry (and about 3 months later...if I'm generous) he's been given 2 washes of Athonian Camoshade over the shawl and after two thinned coats of Rakarth Flesh, the robe was washed with Agrax Earthshade 3 times. That's it so far. I will be following this up with several further washes to make him look suitably filthy as only a twist should.

The paint scheme is inspired by druidic colours and I'm really looking forward to getting him finished.

Inq28 - Twist Elder Undercoated

So after 5 months of sitting on my shelf I decided it was about time to undercoat my Leder Twist.

Black with a Zenithal coat of Corax White. It's a very Grey White, so I'll probably go over it with another light coat of Skull White spray.

I'm going to get on spraying the rest of his clan now and maybe see about getting a lick of paint on them soon. I haven't forgotten about the Beast though, just waiting on some parts to arrive so I can continue.

Suffer not the distraction to live! - Deathwatch Overkill

Firstly. I am not going to be doing anything with this boxset until I've continued with my current projects and I get at least my INQ28 miniatures painted and my Ashen Stair project under way. I have promised myself this and by the HIVE MIND IT SHALL HAPPEN!! *cough*

Now. It's a wonderful boxset, with some of the most amazing plastics I've ever seen GW produce. The Genestealer Cultists models will be used for the board game, my INQ28 games, my Genestealer Cult 'Munda gang and for my 40k Tyranids. So much value for money! I will also be holding on to the Space Marines as I have never painted a Marine and it will prove a nice exercise.

I can see a lot of conversion potential with both sets of plastics. The Genestealer lending themselves nicely to some Voiddweller concepts due to the ribbed design of their outfits and the Abberants could be used to convert either heavy Twists or scalies with very little effort, to name but two possibilities.

The Deathwatch themselves are a nice easy kit that I'm sure plenty of players are going to cut apart and use for truescaling or to add a bit of character to their existing armies. I'll be keeping them whole methinks. In fact, I'll be keeping the entire boxset whole. Conversions will only happen should I manage to find the Genestealer half of the box on the cheap somewhere.

I will also be using the board sections provided in upcoming INQ28 games as it is highly detailed and nicely produced.

One last thing. I did get a nice text free print of the box art for preordering. It will be finding a frame above my hobby desk soon as I am a big fan of Raymond Swanland.

Until next time folks, enjoy and beware of Old Night.

Inq28 - Textured Twists

So I've got the finger out after a little event cancellation blues and put some texture on the bases of my Twist Elder and his loyal followers. I'm thinking about adding a big 'un to this group but will have to have a look what's available. Thinking about maybe going the old reliable Chaos Shrine carrying Ogre conversion route. We'll see though.

INQ28 - Setting the Foundations

Evening folks. Last post I showed you the board myself and my friend, Gaz started on. Well Christmas has come and gone and left me with a voucher for GW, which I promptly spent on this little beauty below.

The Imperial Sector Terrain Boxset. It came to a nice little sum and I've already jumped headfirst into making some terrain for the INQ28 event next month here in Cork. The buildings will be mostly whole, which will leave me with quite a bit of pieces to represent ruined walls at a later point and for a later project.

These buildings will be split in half and will allow for the roofs to be removed for interior drama.

Now I'm going to get back to making more buildings. Hope you've enjoyed this little look into my current work. I hope you had a happy Candlemass and will have a productive New Cycle.

Today my friend and fellow Brethren, Gaz; helped me start my first 40k board. I say helped, he constructed the whole frame while I talked shite and tried to remember to take photos. This will be for use in the upcoming INQ28 event we have planned for January. What's that you say? INQ28 event? Well, well, well. More shall be revealed in the coming posts.

INQ28 - Arbiter WIP Build

Two updates in one day? What madness is this?!! I finished kitbashing him tonight. Very much inspired by the work of Gentlemen Johan Egerkrans and Krautscientist. I've a fair bit to do on him yet and honestly I'm not even completely convinced about the head at the moment.
Fluff-wise these blokes will be based on Fentis. It's a swampy wet world so perhaps I'll give them hooded heads and shoulder cloaks.

Hmmmm indeed!

Literature in the Underhive!

Necromunda Novels

This is a good day. I managed to nab myself a killer deal from a local gamer getting rid of his old Necromunda novels. Nevermind the fact that I have a bookcase full of unread Black Library novels. Nevermind that I have yet to finish the End Times series sitting staring at me. Judging me. Nevermind that I haven't finished the Ravenor series I nabbed not too long back after inhaling the amazing series that was Xenos, Malleus and Hereticus.

Nevermind all that!

It's time to enter the Underhive, Scum!

Now to get the rest of them.....

INQ28 - Genestealer Cult/Rogue Magos Biologis WIP Group

So whilst trying to make an Inquisitor and his warband, believing that I hadn't really come close to creating a viable group...there they were. I subconsciously created a Genestealer Cult/Rogue Magos Biologis Inq28(possible also Inquisimunda) warband!

The Hive Mind works in mysterious ways...

Thank you for visiting my blog traveller, safe journey to you and beware Old Night

INQ28 - Inquisitor WIP Ascending

So the base model for my Inquisitor arrived today. I can not wait to year this fellow apart and bring you along for the ride! It'll be my first attempt at slicing and splicing together plastic and white metal models. I really like this model and he was a doozy to find.

INQ28 - Inquisitor Henchman Finished!

-+-+-+-+++-+-+-+-

Henrik Frey planted his boot against the door and pushed. His leg brace whined as the mechanisms worked over time. With a snap the portal burst open and sent shards of rusted metal into the room beyond. He walked in, lasrifle braced against his shoulder, scanning the area. There was no one to be seen. He was not the stealthiest man, he had been told many times, but then again stealth was not his way. If he could not avoid the situation altogether, then guns blazing was the only way. In this regard his braced leg seemed a good match for him, it was cumbersome, heavy and loud, much like himself, but by the Throne you didn't want to be on the receiving end of a kick from it...

-+-+-+-+++-+-+-+-

Apart from a coat of varnish of that will come later. This is the first human model I've painted since I was 14 or so. I'm pretty happy with him, but I'll not lie in saying that there's a lot I want to improve upon. I've learned quite a bit whilst working on him. I think I've captured the vision I had of him. That in itself is a triumph for me.

Back with a paint splat!

Hello again guys. It's been a little while since I've posted anything miniature related. I've been kept busy what with work and a baba on the way! The house is now getting to a much more baby friendly state which I'm very proud of myself and my lady for. Not that it was terrible, but we do have a lot of stuff between the pair of us! I've managed to acquire a couple of methods of miniature organisation and have now the means to keep my plastic crack away from tiny hands! Huzzah!

I've been on the scrounge for e-waste of all types with the aim of making my own terrain fit for gaming at home so you'll be seeing some of that in the time to come. It'll be suitably grungy and hive worldy, with a few twists here and there. My aim is for it to be suitable for games of 40k, Inq28 and Necromunda.

As you can see above, there's finally painting going on again! Not for Project Morrslieb or my INQ28 work that's slowly coming together but for my Nids' which are in need of a paint far more at the moment. Our Escalation Campaign is chugging along slowly due to many of us not having the time to donate to playing games. Damn adult life. These Termagants are still a work in progress, requiring one more skin wash, carapace highlights and a base but they're battlefield ready and I'll be moving on to the trio of Warriors I've put together to get them to the same level of completion before applying the last steps.

INQ28 - Henchman Build Finished

So here we are, an update before a paint job....I know I'm terrible. But I just couldn't not show him off one more time just before I spray him. You've probably noticed the differences since last update but if you haven't I'll outline. I've finished with the leg brace, definitely one of the most finicky bits of modelling I've ever done. The hinge mechanisms were made from rolled GS, dried and cut to size. They're a little different in size, but I imagine that that might be due to repeated hasty repair by the owner himself over time and a lack of appropriately sized parts. His bionic eye was also super tiny and was made the same way. I used LGS afterwards to fill seals between the greenstuff and smoothed it down, this also helped to provide some nice texture, but not too much. Around his neck has been sculpted a sheepskin collar like that of an old pilot jacket. Where he's going he'll need it.

So he's done now and ready for an undercoat! Unfortunately my 2 week holiday is finished and I'm heading back to the front to deal with the beautiful public....../cough, this means that he'll have to wait until Sunday for a undercoat but will sit proudly on my desk until then. Once again, I really appreciate the feedback and please keep it coming.

Until next time, beware of Old Dark and travel safely.
